Dress: We wear anything from jeans & t-shirt to suits and dresses. Its not a fashion contest here.
The routine: We sing songs & hymns, pray, read a psalm; there is a children's segment, a 4 minute greeting time and then a sermon/homily. There are special additions to this routine sometimes... like Eucharist, baptisms, dedications, presentations and seasonal flourishes.
Children: Our children sit with us and worship with us until sermon time. Then they are escorted downstairs for their own teaching /activity time by vetted and police-screened, leaders. After the service, each parent collects their own child/children from the lower level. Of course, children are always welcome to be with their parents - either for the full service upstairs or downstairs for the children's program. Don't worry if your child fusses. It doesn't bother us a bit. Maybe, if ‘little Johnny’ has a bit of a melt-down, step out until the storm is over, but don't let that kind of thing embarrass you. We've been there. We understand. It's not a problem.
The goal: At worship, we want to focus on and pay respect to God (Father, Son, Spirit) and sense His awe-inspiring presence, which He promised to those who gather for this purpose. When we gather, we experience His dynamic presence in a different way from what we might experience in personal prayer. We also bring our personal struggles (hidden in our mind and hearts). We present these to God and gain strength to carry them or defeat these struggles. In short, we come to revere Father, Son, and Spirit and we find that God also ministers to us.
